A Commitment to Health Care in the Ironbound

With emergency care, prenatal care, primary care, monthly health screenings, free transportation, and centralized scheduling for additional services at Saint Michael’s Medical Center, the Saint James Campus continues to play an important health-care role in the Ironbound community.

Satellite Emergency Department

Saint Michael’s Medical Center now operates a 24-hour satellite emergency department at the Saint James Campus seven days a week. With the unit fully staffed and equipped, the Ironbound community can continue to use the emergency room as it has for decades. The unit makes referrals for continuing inpatient and/or outpatient treatment when appropriate to nearby Saint Michael’s Medical Center.

Behavioral-Health Services

The Saint James Campus continues to offer behavioral-health services.

Prenatal Services

The Saint James Campus continues to offer prenatal care, now connecting expectant mothers with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center for their deliveries and peri-natal services.

Primary Care/Screenings/Health Education

Area residents can continue to access primary care at the Saint James Campus, as well as benefit from free, monthly, on-site health screenings and education sessions, covering such topics as cancer prevention, cholesterol, heart health, and more.

SATURDAY, APRIL 19 – 9 a.m. to noon The first monthly health event will feature diabetes (glucose) screening, diabetes management education, blood pressure screening, HIV testing, and an enrollment session for the NJ FamilyCare program.

SATURDAY, MAY 17 - 9 a.m. to noon The May 2008 health event will focus on women's health and will feature breast cancer and cervical cancer screening, HIV testing, and blood pressure screening and education.

SATURDAY, JUNE 28 - 9 a.m. to noon The June 2008 health event will focus on men's health and will feature prostate and colorectal cancer screening, HIV testing, and blood pressure screening and education.

Free Shuttle Service to Saint Michael’s Medical Center

Anyone needing transportation from the Saint James Campus to Saint Michael’s Medical Center can take advantage of a free shuttle service. Operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, the comfortable 15-passenger shuttle leaves the Saint James Campus at the top of the hour. Return trips leave Saint Michael’s Medical Center on the half-hour.
